Transformation

How does change happen?

There are many ways to look at this question and many ways to answer it. Some changes happen suddenly and loudly- you can’t miss them! Some creep up on you slowly over time and one day you notice an absence, or the presence of something new in your life or within yourself.

I enjoy working with people and seeing them change and grow as they work towards their goals of self-fulfillment, building resiliency, and creating deeper connections with others. I wrote this poem after reflecting on my work with clients as well as changes in my own life. I think that change happens in small ways over time. Little things- a meme, something a friend says, a new perspective- they all add up! Feel free to share your thoughts on change and transformation in the comments.

Transformation

She wanted to know how change happened
and when it occurred.
She wanted to know how to transform.

It began quietly, as she asked the question.
A space opened
and change became possible.

As she went about the day to day,
making a cup of tea, driving to work,
subtle shifts occurred in the background.

She pictured herself the way she wanted to be.
She surrounded herself with supportive people
and allowed herself to grow and change.

She became aware of her habits and patterns.
She let go of what no longer served her.
The choices she made aligned with her needs and desires.

She stepped into herself.
Her remodeled self.
She felt completely at ease.

Once she was ready,
She realized with wonder
that the transformation had occurred.

She had become what she set her sights to be.
